Wild Garlic Foraging
Getting Into Nature
Team ELLIKER took a trip to our local woodland to harvest some of the in season wild garlic. Peak season for foraging wild garlic is from mid-February until April, but you can sometimes be lucky to find it up until late May.
It can be found in woodlands and forests and you’ll usually smell it before you see it, it has a strong garlicky scent which fills the woodland in the warmer weather.
Wild garlic is a good place to start if you’re new to foraging as it’s extremely easy to identify. The white flowers grow in clusters with pointy petals and the green leaves are long with a smooth edge. The flowers are also edible and we recommend using them for a garnish or in salads. We made ourselves some tasty garlic butter with the green leaves, but it can also be used for pesto or soup.
Always ensure that whilst foraging you are doing so responsibly - making sure you have permission to forage, only picking from areas which have a large supply and as a general rule whilst foraging, you should never take more than you need.
Foraging is life enhancing when you have the right tools to assist you. We used the Midal II Bucket Hat Sand to keep the sun off our head and necks, Kiln Hooded Zip Top Backpack 22L Sand to carry our cooking equipment, Kirkby Bottle Bag Navy for our water bottle, Blackthorn Cap Black again to avoid direct sun, Hetchell Sacoche Bag 1L Grey to carry our garlic forage and the Carston Tote Bag 13L with more outdoor essentials inside.
Designed to be multi-functional, all Elliker products can be utilised to assist you on your foraging outings.
